Our brief

SLS was appointed on a design and build project associated with the refurbishment of this prestigious 4 storey office development in the centre of Sheffield, works included remodelling of the internal space to create cellular office accommodation and new leisure facilities. A new services core was added to provide changing rooms and showers. Due to the nature of the existing sub soils and being located adjacent to a river, the foundations for the building proved to be a heavily reinforced deep raft slab supported on piles. In order to avoid cutting any of the existing floor slab and potentially compromising the structural design to accommodate the installation of new below ground drainage pipes, a solution was devised to utilise a floor zone previously occupied by a raised access floor to route the new drainage runs.
